Pope Leo XIV on Saturday met with the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria who are on their Ad Limina Apostolorum visit to Rome.
Ad Limina Apostolorum visit is a traditional pilgrimage in which Catholic bishops travel to Rome to meet the Pope and report on the pastoral situation and challenges of their dioceses.
The visit followed the conclusion of the bishops’ conference where critical issues affecting the church in Nigeria were discussed.
A video shared on social media by the Vatican showed the bishop presenting gifts to the pope.
A group of 37 bishops earlier met the pope on March 6. A second group of 35 met the church’s leader on Saturday.
Pope Leo XIV was elected on May 8, 2025, and inaugurated on May 18, 2025. He will make his first apostolic journey to Africa in April, which will include stops in Algeria, Cameroon, Angola and Equatorial Guinea.
