Upper House Pays Tribute to General Abubakar Following Death in Detention

The Senate has been plunged into mourning following the demise of Major General Rabe Abubakar, a retired former Director of Defence Information, with the news eliciting an outpouring of sorrow from the upper legislative chamber.

A statement issued on Saturday by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, who chairs the Senate Committee on Army, conveyed the committee's profound sadness at the loss of Major General Rabe Abubakar, a distinguished son of Batsari Local Government Area in Katsina State.

Major General Abubakar's life was tragically cut short after he was abducted, along with his wife, on 30th May 2026, while traveling along the Katsina–Matazu road, a senseless act of violence that has sent shockwaves throughout the nation.

Throughout his illustrious career, as well as in retirement, Major General Abubakar demonstrated unwavering dedication to Nigeria, consistently conducting himself with honour and making significant contributions to the national security discourse.

The Senate Committee on Army has extended its heartfelt condolences to Major General Abubakar's immediate family, the Nigerian Army, the people of Batsari Local Government Area, and the entire Katsina State, praying that Almighty Allah grants him a place in Aljannah Firdaus and imparts the necessary strength to his family to cope with this irreparable loss.

The committee has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Executive and security agencies to bolster measures aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerian citizens, while also paying tribute to the unwavering dedication of security personnel and urging citizens to remain united and patient as efforts to restore peace continue.
