University of Jos community members, including students and employees, were caught up in the violence that erupted in Angwan Rukuba

The University of Jos, located near the scene of the Angwan Rukuba attacks in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, suffered a tragic loss on Sunday, March 29, 2026, with two students and a staff member among the victims of the assault that claimed at least 28 lives.

The affected individuals from the University of Jos include Patrick Ishaya, a 300-level Geography and Planning student, Abel Joro Gershon, a 300-level Building student, and Mr. Duguryil Ufialas Daniel, a Hall Officer at the Postgraduate Hostel.

On Tuesday, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, paid a visit to the survivors at the Jos University Teaching Hospital to assess their condition and offer support.

Prof. Ishaya was accompanied on this visit by Prof. Noel Wanang, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, and Dr. Rosemary Anga, the Deputy Dean of Student Affairs, as they checked on the well-being of the survivors.

According to Prof. Ishaya, the three individuals from the University of Jos are recovering well from their injuries, and he praised the hospital management for providing prompt and professional care to the patients.

Prof. Ishaya expressed relief that the victims are responding well to treatment, stating “Thankfully, all of them are responding well to treatment,” and urging the university community and Nigerians to continue praying for their full recovery and the restoration of peace in the country.
