University of Ibadan abolishes enrollment limits for online and remote students

The University of Ibadan has introduced a new pathway for qualified candidates to gain admission, despite limited quotas and physical space constraints, through its Open, Distance and eLearning programme, providing an alternative route to conventional face-to-face learning.

This initiative is specifically designed for candidates who participated in the Post-UTME screening exercise but were unable to secure admission due to the institution's limited capacity, offering them a second chance at obtaining a University of Ibadan degree.

A special application window for the 2025/2026 academic session has been opened, with a deadline for submission set for August 15, 2026, and classes for the special cohort are scheduled to commence on August 17, 2026.

According to the Director of the UI Distance Learning Centre, Prof. Olufade Onifade, eligible candidates are urged to take advantage of this opportunity before the application deadline, as it provides a flexible and convenient way to pursue higher education.

Candidates who sat for the University of Ibadan Post-UTME examination can switch to the ODeL programme at no additional cost, with the programme offering flexible virtual classes, mobile learning, interactive course materials, and physical revision sessions.

The UI-ODeL programme is taught by the same faculty lecturers as the conventional programmes, and graduates receive the same prestigious University of Ibadan degree, with courses available across a wide range of disciplines, including B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Statistics, and B.A. English.

Other available programmes include B.Sc. Psychology, B.Sc. Economics, B.Sc. Political Science, B.Sc. Sociology, B.A. Communication and Language Arts, B.Ed. Educational Management, and B.Sw. Social Work, among others.

Candidates who participated in the 2026 UI Post-UTME exercise are eligible for the free change-of-mode offer, and are required to visit the official change-of-mode application portal to switch their mode of study from the conventional on-campus option to the ODeL programme.

Additionally, other interested candidates who meet the requirements can submit fresh applications to join the special cohort, with the university encouraging eligible applicants to act promptly due to the approaching August 15 deadline and limited available spaces.

The university emphasizes that the ODeL pathway offers candidates the opportunity to obtain a University of Ibadan degree while benefiting from flexible learning arrangements that combine virtual instruction, mobile learning, interactive academic materials, and physical revision sessions.
