Undeterred by downpour, Yenagoa residents rally in support of NDC

Residents from across the eight local government areas of Bayelsa State defied heavy rainfall in Yenagoa to declare their support for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in a show of political strength ahead of upcoming elections.

In a statement issued on Monday by the party’s Director of New Media in Bayelsa State, Gabriel Ukuta, the large turnout reflected growing confidence in the leadership of Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, the party’s National Leader.

According to Ukuta, the gathering underscored increasing grassroots momentum for the NDC, noting that Dickson’s political track record as a former two-term governor of Bayelsa State and current senator representing Bayelsa West continues to inspire support.

Addressing the crowd, the National Chairman of the NDC, Senator Moses Cleopas, described the party as “the Noah’s Ark of our time,” positioning it as a platform for the oppressed, voiceless, and marginalized. He commended Dickson for his vision and urged citizens to align with the party’s ideals.

The Bayelsa State Chairman of the NDC, Dauperebo Ikuromo, also expressed appreciation to supporters for their resilience and formally welcomed attendees to the event.

A major highlight of the gathering was a wave of defections from other political parties, including the APC, PDP, ADC, and Labour Party.

A former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Selekebina Saboh, announced his defection to the NDC alongside over 10,200 supporters from across the state, pledging loyalty to the party’s leadership and ideology.

Similarly, Hon. Wilson Ayakpo Dayegha from Ekeremor Local Government Area declared his support for the NDC, describing it as a viable platform for grassroots-driven political success. He assured party leaders of his commitment to mobilizing support ahead of the elections.

Other prominent figures at the event included Hon. Pabra Igwele, State Deputy Chairman of the NDC; Hon. Fyneman Wilson, representative of the National Leader; Dr. O. Osusu; Hon. Salo Adikumo; Chief Suru Oyarede; Hon. Wisdom Fafi; and Hon. Oyinke Godbless, among others.

The event marks a significant development in Bayelsa’s political landscape, signaling ongoing realignments as parties intensify preparations for forthcoming elections.
