Barely three weeks after joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. David Umbugadu has resigned from the ruling party, declaring that his political future lies with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a resignation letter dated March 24, 2026, and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Ika Wangibi Ward in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, Umbugadu said his decision was informed by his renewed belief in the PDP.
The two-time PDP governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, who contested against Governor Abdullahi Sule in the 2019 and 2023 elections, cited concerns over unfair treatment that could hinder his 2027 gubernatorial ambition.
Umbugadu had only recently joined the APC, having been formally received on March 2, 2026, during the party’s congress at Government House, Lafia. The event was attended by Governor Abdullahi Sule, former governors Abdullahi Adamu and Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, as well as the state APC chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello.
Before his brief stint in the APC, Umbugadu had been a member of the PDP since 2014, when he defected from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
