UK Court Hands Down Life Sentence to Nigerian Woman's Murderer, Her Former Partner

Frances Obiefuleh Norbert Maiksner, a 49-year-old man, has received a life sentence with a minimum term of 24 years for the murder of his 45-year-old girlfriend, Frances Obiefuleh, a Nigerian national.

In a shocking turn of events, Maiksner had used tape to cover her face in Havant, Hampshire, back in April of the previous year, leading to her tragic demise.

Maiksner's sentencing took place at Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday, following a guilty verdict for murder and child cruelty, which was delivered by a jury at the same court on Friday.

The grim discovery of Obiefuleh's body was made after Maiksner was found walking on the hard shoulder of the M40 in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, by a highways officer, who was then informed by Maiksner to contact the police.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary revealed that upon his arrest, Maiksner confessed to the crime, stating it was "all a dream" and expressing his desire to "wake up".

During his sentencing remarks on Monday, Mr Justice Murray acknowledged that no sentence could ever truly reflect the value of Frances's life or alleviate the profound grief and sense of loss experienced by her loved ones.

Mr Justice Murray further emphasized that the depth of pain and grief caused by Maiksner's actions was impossible for those who had not endured a similar tragedy to fully comprehend.

Maiksner's two-week trial commenced on 15 March, although he refused to attend court or participate in the proceedings.

Prosecutor Paul Cavin KC presented the court with the findings of a post-mortem examination, which revealed that Obiefuleh's death was caused by smothering, with injuries resulting from compression of the neck and chest.

Following the verdict, Obiefuleh's family released a heartfelt tribute, describing her as "kind, intelligent, and resourceful" and a "caring and deeply loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend to many".

The family's statement also fondly remembered her as a "devoted mother and beautiful in every sense of the word".
