UCL: McTominay to miss Arsenal clash after heart procedure

Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay will miss Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League opener against Arsenal after undergoing a successful procedure to correct a heart arrhythmia.

According to Reuters, the 29-year-old Scotland international underwent a planned ablation procedure at Spire Manchester Hospital after being diagnosed last week with a mild, benign arrhythmia.

Napoli confirmed that the procedure was successful and said McTominay will observe a rest period of around two weeks before returning to training.

“McTominay will observe a rest period of around two weeks before resuming training,” the Italian club said in a statement.

The former Manchester United midfielder is therefore unavailable for Napoli’s Champions League meeting with Arsenal, having already missed Saturday’s 3-2 Serie A defeat by champions Inter Milan.

He is also expected to miss upcoming league fixtures against Bologna and Fiorentina before returning to full training during the next international break.

McTominay has become an important figure for Napoli since joining the club from Manchester United, but his latest setback comes at the start of their Champions League campaign.

Napoli face Arsenal on Wednesday in their opening league-phase fixture, with McTominay expected to begin his recovery ahead of a return to training in about two weeks.
