‘Two months of torment over’ — Spouse of released Oyo principal, Professor Alamu

Professor Wale Alamu, the husband of abducted principal Mrs Rachael Alamu, has hailed the nationwide efforts that led to the release of the victims, describing it as the end of eight weeks of anguish, and is now urging a security review to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The release of the victims, which occurred on Friday, marked the end of a traumatic ordeal for the family, with Professor Alamu revealing that he had endured immense pain for the past eight weeks, which has now been alleviated by the welcome news.

Speaking to Vanguard, Professor Alamu expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to securing the victims' freedom, acknowledging the collective efforts of the government and Nigerians from diverse backgrounds, including Muslims, Christians, and traditional worshippers.

He specifically thanked the presidency, the state governor, the state executive council, and Nigerians as a whole, stressing that every contribution, no matter how small, played a significant role in securing the release of the abducted pupils and teachers.

While expressing relief over the successful rescue, Professor Alamu emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of the circumstances surrounding the abduction, highlighting the importance of learning from the incident to strengthen security around schools and vulnerable communities.

According to Professor Alamu, a thorough review of the incident will enable the government to identify areas that require attention and take necessary steps to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future, thereby ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
