Turmoil Erupts in Kwara as APC Governorship Hopeful Withdraws to Support "Stronger Contender

A dramatic turn of events unfolded in Kwara State as Prince Haliru Dantsoho Mahmud, a governorship aspirant for the All Progressives Congress, initially announced his candidacy, only to withdraw from the race in favor of Ambassador Yahaya Seriki Gambari just minutes later.

Mahmud, who represents the Kwara North Senatorial District, had been motivated to run due to his zone's historic exclusion from the governor's seat, but ultimately decided to support Seriki, from Kwara Central, after consulting with key stakeholders.

According to Mahmud, his decision to step down was driven by a desire for fairness and unity, stating that "For nearly three decades, Kwara North has stood loyal to our state, yet its time to lead has not come," and that he had championed this cause to promote progress.

Upon withdrawing from the race, Mahmud expressed his hope that, under Seriki's leadership, Kwara would experience significant growth, stability, and shared prosperity, emphasizing that his decision was made after careful consideration and consultation with supporters.

Describing Seriki as a unifying figure with a track record of empowering youth, driving grassroots development, and building bridges across communities, Mahmud noted that Seriki's vision aligns closely with that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Characterizing his decision as "a rallying call" and "a sacrifice for unity and progress," Mahmud drew applause from party members and supporters at the event, which took place at an Events Centre on Old Offa Road, GRA, Ilorin.

Seizing the opportunity, Mahmud commended the federal and state governments, as well as security personnel, for their response to the recent Woro incident, urging swift action to rescue the abducted victims.
