Troops rescue 10 kidnap victims in Katsina

Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued 10 civilians, including an infant, after a military pursuit forced their abductors to abandon them in Katsina State.

The victims were rescued on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, following a swift response by the troops to reports of the abduction of residents of Unguwan Daudu and Unguwan Chibauna communities in Funtua Local Government Area of the state.

According to the Army, troops deployed around the Sabuwa axis were immediately mobilised to track the fleeing terrorists and rescue their captives after receiving actionable intelligence on the abduction.

The military pursuit reportedly put the terrorists under intense pressure, compelling them to abandon the victims and flee as the troops closed in.

All 10 victims were subsequently recovered safely.

The rescued civilians comprised three adult males, six females and one infant, according to the operational account.

The victims are expected to be handed over to the Sabuwa Local Government authorities for medical evaluation and other necessary support before being reunited with their families.

The Army said the operation highlighted the continued pressure being mounted by troops of Operation Fansan Yamma against terrorists and kidnappers operating across the North-West, particularly in areas where criminal groups target vulnerable communities.

It also underscored the importance of timely intelligence in enabling troops to respond rapidly to attacks, pursue fleeing criminals and prevent abducted civilians from being taken deeper into terrorist hideouts.
