Troops recover fabricated AK-47 during stop-and-search in Jos

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have intensified security measures across Jos metropolis with a massive stop-and-search exercise, arresting two suspects and recovering a fabricated AK-47 rifle along with ammunition and other weapons.

The operation, conducted on Friday, targeted key flashpoints and transit routes in Jos North and Jos South, including Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-cost housing estate.

A statement signed by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace issued on Saturday by the Joint Task Force said its troops recovered one fabricated AK-47 rifle, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one pump action shotgun, and a cutlass during the sweeps.

The proactive move aims to prevent further escalation of tensions in Jos North amid the ongoing crisis in Plateau State and restore normalcy to the area.

In a related development, troops responded swiftly to reports of sporadic shooting at the Yelwa Cattle Market in Shendam. The unidentified gunmen fled into nearby bushes upon the arrival of security forces.

During a cordon-and-search of the area, operatives discovered two local residents with gunshot wounds and rushed them to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining a robust security presence across Plateau State, vowing to sustain intensified operations until violence is completely neutralised and lasting peace is restored in all affected communities.
