President Bola Tinubu has called upon Nigerians to foster a spirit of love, tolerance, and generosity, while also adhering to the rule of law, as the nation's Muslim population celebrates Eid-el-Kabir, a significant Islamic festival. This appeal was made by the president on Wednesday, shortly after participating in the two-rakat Eid prayer at the Dodan Barracks Eid Ground in Lagos.

In his remarks, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to God for the blessings bestowed upon the nation, allowing its citizens to witness another year and another Eid-el-Kabir celebration, and he also thanked Allah for His mercy and providence.

The president emphasized the importance of reflecting on the lessons of the Eid-el-Kabir festival, which include promoting unity, compassion, and peaceful coexistence among people of different ethnic and religious backgrounds.

President Tinubu urged Nigerians to learn from the festival's teachings, which emphasize the importance of showing love and kindness to one another, without discrimination, ethnicity, or hatred, and to share generosity with one another in a manner that reflects the nation's values and humanity.

The president stressed that tolerance and adherence to religious teachings, as well as the rule of law, are essential foundations for a peaceful society, and he emphasized the need for Nigerians to be tolerant, obedient to the will of Allah, and obedient to the rule of law.

President Tinubu also addressed the issue of insecurity, stating that no religion condones violence, banditry, or the killing of innocent people, and he noted that the holy teachings do not sanction such actions.

The president explained that the sacrifice of Eid-el-Kabir is a symbol of the value of life, citing the example of Prophet Ibrahim, who was instructed by Allah to sacrifice his son, Ismail, but was instead given an animal to sacrifice, demonstrating the importance of preserving human life.

Earlier, Sheikh Sulaimon Abou-Nolla, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, had urged Muslims to embrace the essential lessons of Eid-el-Kabir, including sacrifice, generosity, unity, and service to humanity, and he emphasized that the festival symbolizes the obedience and sacrifice demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.

The Chief Imam called upon Nigerians to reject tribalism, terrorism, hate speech, and violence, and to instead promote unity, peace, and mutual cooperation, stressing the need for peaceful coexistence and progress in the nation.

Sheikh Abou-Nolla also offered prayers for President Tinubu, asking Allah to grant him wisdom, good health, and guidance in leading the country towards peace and prosperity, and he urged Nigerians to shun all acts of indiscipline, hate speech, violence, and terrorism.

The Eid prayer ground was attended by several top government officials, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and former Lagos governor, Raji Fashola, who joined President Tinubu for the celebration.
