Tinubu spotlights key overhauls in schooling, public works, and law enforcement

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration's dedication to bolstering security, education, infrastructure, and economic development, highlighting that ongoing reforms are laying the groundwork for a more prosperous Nigeria, with his administration committed to safeguarding the legacies of Nigeria's founding leaders through policies that promote national development.

Tinubu, represented by his Special Assistant on Political Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, conveyed this message on Saturday at the third General Hassan Usman Katsina Memorial Conference held at Arewa House, Kaduna, where he expressed optimism that the security situation, particularly in Northern Nigeria, would improve.

According to the President, his administration's efforts to address insecurity are ongoing, and he is confident that, by the grace of Allah, the challenges of insecurity confronting the nation, particularly in Northern Nigeria, will soon be overcome, as the government continues to work tirelessly to secure the nation.

Regarding education, Tinubu stated that the Federal Government has expanded access to higher education through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), with over one million students already benefiting from the scheme, and has also restored stability to tertiary institutions by removing them from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and reversing deductions from their internally generated revenues.

The President also highlighted the government's investments in classrooms, hostels, research centres, and science complexes through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), as well as the approval of a new national curriculum and expansion of technical and vocational education, in addition to establishing new federal universities and polytechnics in several states to improve access to quality education.

Tinubu noted that infrastructure development is progressing, with work underway on the reconstruction of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway and the construction of the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, while the Sokoto-Zamfara-Kaduna Road and the 434-kilometre Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Road are also under construction to improve connectivity and stimulate economic growth.

The administration is also implementing projects to strengthen electricity supply across Northern Nigeria, including the Kaduna Power Station, the 40-megawatt Kumbotso High Voltage Power Project, rural solar mini-grids, and the revitalisation of the 215-megawatt Kaduna Power Plant, according to the President.

In addition, the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna, has been upgraded into a university named after the late Gen. Hassan Usman Katsina, which is more than 90 per cent completed and has commenced academic activities, while work is progressing on the 1,350-megawatt Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant, and renewable energy projects are being implemented in Kaduna and neighbouring states.

Tinubu further stated that construction of the Kaduna-Kano Rail Line and Kano-Maradi Rail Project is advancing steadily, with funding also committed for the Kaduna and Kano light rail projects, while the Abuja Metro Rail is undergoing rehabilitation, and the Federal Government has approved the upgrade of the Abuja-Kaduna train service to facilitate the movement of passengers and goods.

The President reported progress in agriculture, food security, youth empowerment, and social welfare programmes, with the reforms aimed at creating opportunities, boosting productivity, and ensuring long-term prosperity for all Nigerians.

Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain united and support government efforts to build a peaceful and prosperous nation, as his administration continues to work towards creating a brighter future for all citizens.
