Tinubu rearranges his team of ministers, appointing Oyedele to head the finance department

President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for a minor adjustment to the Federal Executive Council's membership, as outlined in a memo signed by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

This change involves the departure of two cabinet members, Wale Edun and Ahmed Dangiwa, who will be replaced by new appointees, with Edun previously serving as the minister of finance and coordinating minister for the economy.

Taiwo Oyedele, formerly a minister of state in the ministry, has been appointed to take over as minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, with Edun directed to hand over to him.

Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been nominated as the ministerial nominee and minister designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, according to the memo.

The memo also instructs Dangiwa to hand over to the minister of state in the ministry, ensuring a smooth transition of responsibilities.

All handover and takeover processes must be completed by the close of business on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026, as stipulated in the memo.

Senator George Akume explained that the president's decision to make these changes is intended to enhance cohesion and synergy in governance, ultimately leading to more effective delivery on the economy for Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Akume noted that President Tinubu exercised his powers as conferred by Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended) in approving the cabinet reshuffle.

The president expressed gratitude to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them well in their future endeavors.

Akume also stated that the president assured cabinet members that the process of reinvigoration would be ongoing, with the goal of achieving greater impact and effectiveness in governance.
