Tinubu reaffirms dedication to reestablishing calm and order in Nigeria, says Shettima

Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has called upon Nigerians to offer fervent prayers for peace and unity, as the nation marks Democracy Day, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remaining committed to restoring peace and security nationwide.

Senator Shettima's remarks came after a special Jummat prayer at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday, where he also acknowledged the government's efforts to secure the safe return of children and citizens held by bandits and terrorists, while honoring the sacrifices of past heroes who have protected Nigeria's democracy.

According to Senator Shettima, President Tinubu is resolute in his commitment to bringing peace and stability to the nation, emphasizing that even in the darkest of times, a brighter future is inevitable, and the government will not waver in its pursuit of restoring peace.

He quoted, "No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of dawn, and no matter how stormy the weather may be, it will not rain forever," as he assured Nigerians of the government's unwavering commitment to peace and stability.

Senator Shettima urged Nigerians to pray for one another and for the nation, highlighting that the bonds that unite the country are stronger than the differences that divide it, and this unity is crucial for the nation's progress.

Earlier, the Imam of the National Mosque, Haroun Eze, addressed the congregation, calling on Nigerians to remain patriotic and steadfast in defending the nation, while appealing to leaders to take decisive action to address security challenges and ensure peace, which is essential for national development and citizens' well-being.

The annual Democracy Day prayer service serves as a reminder of the importance of reflection, unity, and prayer as Nigeria marks its democratic achievements and continues to work towards overcoming its security and developmental challenges.

The event was attended by several notable dignitaries, including the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum and Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

Other attendees included the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, the former Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Mahmoud Yayale Ahmed.

The guest list also included the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, and the outgoing Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede.
