Tinubu praises NDLEA for cracking down on international drug trafficking ring

President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and its staff for their outstanding achievement in dismantling a Nigerian-Mexican drug syndicate and disrupting a large-scale, multi-million-dollar illicit drug production network in the country.

The agency's Chairman, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd), made the announcement on Wednesday, following a lengthy operation that involved weeks of intelligence gathering and meticulous planning by NDLEA operatives in collaboration with international partners.

According to a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the operation, which resulted in the arrest of foreign nationals, local kingpins, and other collaborators, as well as the seizure of chemicals and illicit drugs valued at over $360 million, citing exceptional professionalism, courage, and commitment to safeguarding society from the devastating effects of narcotics.

President Tinubu commended the bravery, resilience, and dedication displayed by NDLEA operatives throughout the mission, urging them not to become complacent in their efforts to combat drug trafficking.

He noted that West Africa has become a significant concern in the global war against narcotics, as drug barons have turned the region into a transit hub for moving cocaine, synthetic drugs, and unregulated pharmaceuticals to Europe and North America.

President Tinubu emphasized that drugs pose a critical security threat to the region and a grave danger to the future of the country's youth, many of whom have become victims of the trade.

He called on all Nigerians to recognize that the fight against illicit drugs is not solely the responsibility of the NDLEA, but rather a collective effort, and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to assist security agencies in combating criminal networks.

The President viewed this landmark success as a strong message that security agencies will not tolerate organized crime and criminality, and that those who threaten public safety and national security will face the full force of the law.
