Tinubu gives green light to vocational training facility and 1,000-megawatt electricity initiative in Plateau State

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given his approval for the establishment of a Skills Acquisition Centre in Jos, Plateau State, as a means of arming youths with skills that can be used to secure employment and reducing their susceptibility to engaging in criminal activities.

This approval was communicated to Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang on Saturday during a visit by the Chairman of the Presidential Regulatory Committee on Technology Transfer, Dr. Mohammed Dahiru, and security expert, Rear Admiral Suleiman D. El-ladan, at the Government House in Rayfield, Jos.

According to Dr. Dahiru, who headed the delegation, the centre will be set up under the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, with the goal of increasing youth employment and driving socio-economic growth in the state.

The initiative is also expected to have a positive impact on the state's economy by providing youths with the skills they need to compete in the job market and contribute to the state's development.

President Tinubu has also approved a 1,000-megawatt power project, which will be carried out across Northern Nigeria through a proposed New Nigerian Energy Company in partnership with the United States, with Plateau State being one of the pilot locations for the project.

The power project is anticipated to bring about a significant improvement in electricity supply, stimulate economic activity, and promote stability in the region.

Rear Admiral El-ladan used the opportunity to express his condolences to the Plateau State Government over the recent security challenges faced by the state and reaffirmed the committee's willingness to work together to find lasting solutions.

The retired naval officer also outlined plans to deploy advanced security infrastructure under a “Community-Led Integrated Focus Protection Framework,” with support from international partners, which will enhance the capacity to prevent, detect, and respond swiftly to security threats.

According to Rear Admiral El-ladan, this framework will help ensure lasting peace in the state by providing a proactive approach to addressing security concerns.

Governor Mutfwang, who received the delegation, welcomed the presidential approvals, describing them as timely interventions that will address the issues of youth unemployment, power deficits, and security concerns in Plateau State.
