Tinubu gives green light to upgraded defense equipment amid escalated efforts to combat terrorism

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the acquisition of additional military equipment, a move aimed at strengthening the Armed Forces' efforts to combat insurgency and terrorism across the nation.

This development was revealed on Thursday by the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa, following a high-level security briefing at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to Gen. Musa, the service chiefs provided PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu with a thorough update on the current operations and the prevailing security situation throughout the country during the meeting.

Gen. Musa stated that the meeting allowed the President to gain a firsthand understanding of the developments on the ground, noting that the media has not always accurately represented the scope of military activities.

The Minister acknowledged the recent spate of attacks, but emphasized that the security forces have continued to respond effectively, dealing significant blows to terrorist networks and neutralizing several high-ranking militant commanders.

Troops have also seized enemy assets in recent engagements, and while the minister described the deaths of fallen service members as highly regrettable, he stressed that the military's resolve remains unshakeable.

Gen. Musa paid tribute to the fallen service members, but also underscored the Armed Forces' unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians.

The Minister appealed for public patience, explaining that terrorist groups often escalate violence during the Ramadan period, and noted that commanders have adjusted their strategies to address this trend.

With the approval of new equipment and enhanced cooperation between agencies, Gen. Musa expressed confidence that the security forces would ultimately prevail in the long-standing fight against terrorism.
