Tinubu gives green light to establishment of additional military unit in Kwara to tackle security concerns

President Tinubu is at the helm as troops of Operation Fansan Yamma continue to crack down on terrorists in the North West, resulting in the rescue of 27 kidnap victims in Sokoto and Zamfara States.

Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer, revealed that the troops also thwarted multiple abduction attempts, recovered livestock, and seized motorcycles during a series of operations in the two states.

On 20 July 2026, troops from Forward Operating Bases Shagari and Sifawa sprang into action in Wanke and Kaura communities, Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State, after receiving credible intelligence about terrorist activity in the area.

The troops engaged the terrorists at Kaura community, using their superior firepower to force the criminals to flee, and subsequently rescued six kidnap victims, as well as recovered livestock and two motorcycles.

The rescued victims were then reunited with their families, marking a successful operation for the troops.

In a separate incident on the same day, troops operating at Gandi, in collaboration with the State Security Community Guard Corps, rescued ten kidnap victims who had managed to escape from their abductors and were found wandering in the bush at Badanma community, Gandi Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The rescued victims, consisting of men, women, and children, were handed over to community leaders and reunited with their families, bringing relief to the affected families.

On 21 July 2026, troops of Combat Team 12 OPFY responded swiftly to a distress call along the Gummi–Sokoto road, where terrorists had attempted to abduct commuters by blocking the highway.

The troops engaged and pursued the attackers, resulting in the rescue of 11 kidnapped persons and the recovery of one motorcycle, further degrading the capabilities of the terrorist group.

The Theatre Command has commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism, and prompt response in securing the safe rescue of the victims, acknowledging the crucial role they played in the operation.

The command also expressed appreciation for the public's sustained support and timely provision of credible information, which has been instrumental in the success of the ongoing operations.
