Tinubu Claims Cartels Behind Fuel Subsidy and Foreign Exchange Manipulation are Plotting Against His Life as NADECO Turns 32

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that they can expect a better deal in his second term, as he commended the National Democratic Coalition, NADECO, for its role in the country's democratic struggle.

According to former Ogun State governor, Olusegun Osoba, who represented Tinubu at the launch of the book "The NADECO Story" in Lagos, the President acknowledged that he wouldn't be in power today without NADECO's efforts.

Tinubu also stated that oil subsidy and exchange rate cabals are wishing him dead due to the policies he introduced when he assumed office in 2023, but he is determined to rearrange the economy despite the challenges.

Osoba revealed that the President is currently focused on addressing the economy and insecurity, noting that the difference between the parallel market and official market exchange rate is now virtually zero, with the Naira valued at around 1,380 to the dollar.

The event, which drew prominent Nigerians such as Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, Professor Sylvester Odion-Akhaine, and Senator Rasheed Ladoja, aimed to celebrate and honor those who played a part in the democratic struggle.

Soyinka, who chaired the event, praised the author of "The NADECO Story", Chief Ayo Opadokun, for capturing the truth about the country's democratic history, describing the book as an "invaluable gift" to the community.

Opadokun, in his remarks, described the event as a historic effort to correct years of silence over the sacrifices made in defense of democracy, honoring patriots, royal fathers, diplomats, media organizations, and human rights activists.

He recalled that between 1994 and 1998, Nigeria witnessed repression and intimidation under the late General Sani Abacha, but a courageous light persisted, sustained by NADECO activists, media institutions, and civil rights groups.

Soyinka also shared his personal experience, revealing that he had to disarm the late Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti, who had planned to attack General Abacha with a special weapon, emphasizing the need to recognize the sacrifices made by those who fought for democracy.

Osoba, speaking in his personal capacity, saluted Opadokun for writing the book and shared his own experience, including how he was almost killed during the struggle, but was saved by a military checkpoint that recognized him.

NADECO General Secretary Ayo Opadokun welcomed guests to the event, describing it as an effort to correct years of silence and honor those who took part in the struggle, including media organizations such as Vanguard, The Guardian, and Punch.

Oba Rasheed Ladoja, in his remarks, expressed hope that Nigeria's democracy will endure, emphasizing the need for continued work to ensure its survival.

Actress Joke Silva, who attended the event, described the NADECO struggle as very sacrificial and focused, praising Opadokun for writing a book that provides firsthand information about the democratic struggle.

Professor Sylvester Odion-Akhaine reviewed the history of NADECO, tracing its origins to the input of the Committee for Unity and Understanding, which clamored for power-shift to the South, leading to Chief MKO Abiola's election.
