Three hundred eleven new students enroll at NOHIL, encouraged to achieve excellence in medical fields

A total of 311 newly admitted students of the College of Nursing Sciences and the Bachelor of Technology Degree Programme in Prosthetics and Orthotics, a programme affiliated with FUTO and FECOT, were formally welcomed during a matriculation ceremony at the National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi, Lagos, also known as NOHIL, an event filled with inspiring words and encouragement.

The Medical Director, Dr. Wakeel Lawal, addressed the students, emphasizing the significance of the occasion, stating that matriculation represents a milestone in their lives and signifies their formal entry into a community of scholars and future healthcare leaders.

Dr. Lawal reminded the students of the noble purpose of their careers in health and medical sciences, highlighting that every lecture, skill acquired, and patient cared for will have an impact on society, and that the knowledge and competence gained can make a significant difference in the lives of others.

He urged the students to adopt dedication, discipline, and lifelong learning, and to remain curious, ask questions, and seek knowledge beyond the classroom, emphasizing that academic excellence must be accompanied by good character.

Dr. Lawal advised the students to respect their teachers, collaborate with peers, and follow the rules, as these values are essential for their growth and success in their academic and professional journey.

Dr. Francis Nwachukwu, the Head of Clinical Sciences, reminded the students that success is dependent on small, consistent actions, and that they must work hard, pay attention to details, and cultivate the right attitude to achieve their goals.

He used the analogy "a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step" to emphasize the importance of taking consistent and focused actions towards their objectives, and encouraged the students to take the next step towards their success.

Dr. Ranti Babalola, the Head of TSERS, encouraged the students to make the most of the opportunity, reminding them that their actions now will shape their future, and advising them to guide and guard their actions to ensure they arrive at their destination whole, emotionally, intellectually, and professionally.

The Acting Provost, Mr. Oseni Margret, highlighted faith and discipline as the keys to success, advising the students to hold on to God, cultivate discipline, and uphold good character, as these values will enable them to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

Mr. Margret emphasized that with focus and dedication, the sky is the starting point, and that the students have the potential to achieve great things if they remain committed to their goals and values.

Mrs. Olubunmi Ogundipe, the Head of Nursing at NOHIL, urged the students to ask questions and develop strong study habits, reminding them that medical courses are practical and require hands-on experience, not just memorization.

She also advised the students to take care of their health, as only a healthy professional can care for others, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing their well-being in their academic and professional journey.

Mr. Ayooluwa Oni, the Provost of the Federal School of Occupational Therapy, reminded the students that challenges are a part of their journey, but with God on their side, they can overcome obstacles, just like previous students have done, and wished them all the best in their academic journey.
