These Smartphones Are Likely to Receive the Android 17 Upgrade

The rollout of Android 17, the next major upgrade to the Android operating system, is anticipated to commence in June 2026, introducing a plethora of new features and enhancements for users, but the question of which phones will receive the update remains uncertain.

Since 2025, smartphone manufacturers have been mandated to provide updates for devices for a minimum of five years, resulting in significant overlap between the Android 17 eligibility list and that of Android 16, although some older models will lose support this year.

A manufacturer-by-manufacturer breakdown of devices expected to receive the update is provided below, but it is essential to note that timelines may vary, as not all brands adhere strictly to their official update commitments.

Google Pixel will lead the rollout, as it typically does, thanks to its control over both hardware and software, and all Pixel devices that received Android 16 are expected to get Android 17, including the Pixel 10a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL.

The list of eligible Google Pixel devices also includes the Pixel 9 series, comprising Pro and Fold variants, as well as the Pixel 8 series, Pixel 7 series, and the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and 6a.

Samsung continues to lead the way in long-term Android support, offering up to seven generations of updates on flagship models, with devices expected to receive Android 17 including the Galaxy S26, S25, S24, and S23 series.

The list of Samsung devices eligible for Android 17 also includes the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip, spanning models 5 through 7, as well as the Galaxy A-series, covering the A16 through A56 range, and select Galaxy M-series models, such as the M35 and M54.

However, older Samsung models, including the Galaxy S22 series and the Z Fold/Flip 4, are not expected to receive further updates, marking the end of their support cycle.

Xiaomi is anticipated to update a wide range of devices to Android 17, encompassing its flagship numbered series, Redmi Note lineup, and Poco phones, although the company's update policy remains less transparent than some of its competitors.

Honor has committed to offering up to seven years of updates on select flagship models, with devices such as the Magic 6, Magic 7, and Magic V series likely to receive Android 17, in line with the company's extended support policy.

OnePlus has outlined its update roadmap, confirming that newer devices, including the OnePlus 11, 12, and 13 series, will receive Android 17, while Oppo is also expected to roll out the update to its latest Find and Reno series devices.

Motorola, however, has faced criticism for offering fewer Android updates on some devices, despite regulatory expectations, although newer Edge, Razr, and Moto G models are likely to be included in the Android 17 rollout.

Smaller brands, such as Nothing and its sub-brand CMF, promise at least three major Android updates, making newer models eligible for Android 17, while Sony remains one of the most transparent manufacturers, with select Xperia models confirmed for the update.
