There are no plans to harm Peter Obi, says Umahi

Minister of Works David Umahi has labeled a recent statement by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as a clear indication of frustration, after Obi allegedly made a comment about receiving death threats.

According to Umahi, Obi's statement is a sign that he has lost focus, and he warned Obi to cease his verbal attacks on President Bola Tinubu, threatening to retaliate with his own attacks if necessary, stating "If Peter Obi attacks Tinubu, I will attack him".

Umahi made these comments during an inspection of President Tinubu's legacy projects in Ebonyi State on Friday, where he emphasized that no one wishes harm upon Obi amidst the controversy surrounding his statement.

Umahi attributed Obi's statement to frustration, citing the visible development and inclusion of the South East zone by President Tinubu as a major threat to Obi's popularity in the region, which Umahi believes has become a significant concern for the former Anambra State governor.

Umahi expressed his desire for Obi to remain alive and participate in the election, saying "Nobody wants Obi dead, it's not just reasonable, we all want him alive to contest this election and watch himself lose again".

He noted that Obi's claim of the South East being his catchment area is based on what Umahi called an "accident of history", but the visible development in the zone has led the people to agree that they are better off with President Tinubu, who is committed to completing his good works for them.

Umahi reiterated his willingness to engage in a debate with Obi about the present administration's achievements and the reasons why the South East should be grateful for its inclusion in national politics.

He emphasized that his intention is not to attack Obi, but rather to speak the truth, and he advised Obi to stop attacking President Tinubu and instead support and commend the infrastructure development ongoing in the South East and beyond.

Umahi expressed his confidence that President Tinubu will remain in office until 2031, completing his projects across the six geopolitical zones, and he urged the people of the South East to reciprocate Tinubu's efforts by voting for him massively.

Umahi declared that he has no regrets about his statements, as he believes he is speaking the truth, and he will continue to do so, saying "I will not regret what I'm saying today because I'm on the path of the truth".
