The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has expressed its support for the proposed establishment of state police, emphasizing that political considerations should not hinder efforts to bolster national security, as the concept of state police is gaining momentum.

According to the PDP, concerns about potential abuse of state police should not impede efforts to address Nigeria's escalating insecurity through a decentralized policing system, which is nearing reality.

Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, stated that the party shares the concerns of millions of Nigerians regarding the country's security challenges and is willing to back any government initiative that can effectively address them.

Mohammed noted that the party cannot afford to let political considerations stand in the way of embracing initiatives that would strengthen national security, emphasizing the need for a collective approach to tackling the country's security issues.

He suggested that a well-designed state police system would empower local communities to play a more significant role in securing their areas, which in turn would help curb the country's growing insecurity.

Mohammed acknowledged the possibility of politicians misusing the state police system but expressed his belief that, if properly established and safeguarded, state police could help reduce insecurity and promote peace in Nigeria.

He emphasized that local communities should take responsibility for protecting their environments from those seeking to destabilize them, which would ultimately contribute to a more peaceful and secure Nigeria in the long run.
