NSUKKA —Tension has continued to mount in Amoka Village, Nru Nsukka, in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, following the alleged killing of a 19-year-old resident, Chiadikaobi Asadu.

The incident, which reportedly occurred on May 23, 2026, has thrown the community into mourning, with allegations that the teenager was beaten to death by members of his extended family after being accused of stealing money belonging to his father.

According to sources, Chiadikaobi was accused of taking ₦17,000 from his father to purchase a mobile phone. The teenager reportedly denied the allegation when confronted, prompting his father to discipline him physically.

Witnesses said the situation later escalated when the father allegedly enlisted the assistance of male relatives to further punish the teenager. The relatives were said to have taken him to a secluded location, tied him to a tree, and subjected him to a prolonged beating.

A community source alleged that the victim was severely assaulted during the morning hours and later released in the evening. He was reportedly instructed to take a bath after the ordeal.

However, when family members could no longer get a response from him, they reportedly forced open the bathroom door and found him unconscious. He was later confirmed dead.

Sources further alleged that efforts were made to conceal the circumstances surrounding the death. The deceased was reportedly buried the same day, with claims that he had slipped in the bathroom after taking drugs.

The matter took another turn the following day when security operatives arrived in the community. According to residents, the deceased’s father allegedly accused some local youths of being responsible for the death, leading to a series of arrests.

The development reportedly heightened tensions in the area and necessitated the intervention of military personnel, who were said to have advised police authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the matter, while residents continue to call for a transparent investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death and ensure that justice is served.
