Taraba police gets first permanent headquarters in 35 years

JALINGO — The Nigeria Police Force has commissioned its first permanent state command headquarters in Taraba State since the state’s creation in 1991.

The commissioning came as the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, called for stronger collaboration between security agencies, the government and citizens to enhance policing and public safety.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Yorro Local Government Area, the IGP, represented by the Taraba State Commissioner of Police, CP Moorkwap Dongshal Sebastien, said the new facility would serve as the central hub for coordinating security operations in the state, ending decades of dependence on temporary office accommodation.

He noted that the project, executed through a partnership involving the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, addresses a long-standing infrastructure gap in the state’s policing architecture.

“The completion of this magnificent building is long overdue, considering that Taraba State was created in 1991.

n

“However, it is better late than never. This project stands as a testament to the determination of the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to leave a lasting legacy,” he said.

The IGP urged officers and personnel of the command to ensure proper maintenance of the facility, describing it as an institutional asset that must be preserved for future generations.

He also reiterated the importance of intelligence-led policing and called on residents, traditional rulers and civil society organisations to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid crime prevention and detection.

Also speaking, Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening security infrastructure across the country.

According to him, the facility forms part of ongoing efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda to modernise policing infrastructure and improve operational efficiency nationwide.

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, who commissioned the project, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting security agencies in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Represented by the Commandant of the Taraba Marshals, CP Abeh Cyril (retd.), the governor said no society could attain its full developmental potential without a secure and peaceful environment.

He pledged that his administration would continue to prioritise the security of lives and property across the state.

In addition to the state command headquarters, Governor Kefas also commissioned a modern divisional police headquarters in Pantinapo as part of efforts to strengthen security infrastructure and improve policing at the grassroots level.
