Taraba 2027: Kefas, Sambo, and Kente Throw Hats into APC Ring

The 2027 governorship election in Taraba State is gaining traction, with key figures such as Governor Agbu Kefas, former Minister of Transportation Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, and All Progressives Congress chieftain Chief David Sabo Kente obtaining the party's expression of interest and nomination forms.

Lawmakers from the Taraba State House of Assembly and National Assembly members from the state jointly purchased the forms for Governor Kefas, who is seeking re-election, in a gesture that he believes will motivate him to continue delivering benefits to the state's residents.

The governor received the forms and expressed his gratitude, stating that the gesture would further encourage him to provide democratic dividends to the people of Taraba State.

Meanwhile, Chief David Sabo Kente, a former North East Development Commission board member, has also joined the race after his supporters and APC stakeholders from the 16 local government areas purchased the forms on his behalf.

A former APC State Secretary, Godwin Villannah, announced Kente's emergence, citing his experience and wide acceptability, and claiming that stakeholders and support groups had unanimously endorsed him.

Villannah, however, expressed concern over the party's preparedness for the 2027 polls, alleging that some founding members had been sidelined in the process.

Former Minister Mu’azu Jaji Sambo has also entered the contest, expressing his preference for a direct primary system, which he believes would provide a fair opportunity for all aspirants.

Through his media aide, Dr. Sam Idiagbonya, Sambo stated that pressure from his supporters influenced his decision to join the race, and he is confident that the party's internal process will produce a credible candidate.

The emergence of multiple aspirants has set the stage for a highly competitive APC governorship primary in Taraba State, ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to political observers.
