Suspected terrorism tipsters taken into custody in Plateau region

The Plateau State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough with the arrest of several suspects, including those with alleged ties to terrorist groups, as well as the recovery of three locally made AK-47 rifles and other deadly weapons, according to a report by Golok Nanmwa.

These developments came as a result of intelligence-driven operations conducted by the police, which yielded substantial results, including the confiscation of various firearms, the police revealed.

On Saturday, in Jos, Commissioner of Police CP Bassey Ewah presented the suspects and seized items to the press, expressing his gratitude to the public for providing vital information that facilitated these successes.

CP Ewah emphasized that the successful operations demonstrate the command's dedication to safeguarding the state's residents, while also acknowledging the importance of public scrutiny and criticism in enhancing the quality of service delivery.

Ewah noted that the command's openness to criticism is essential, as it allows them to identify areas for improvement, stating "We are open to criticism because it is only when you are criticised that you know where you are not doing well).

The Commissioner highlighted a notable case in Langtang South, where a victim's report led to the swift arrest of armed robbery suspects, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Divisional Police Officer and the Armed Robbery Section of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The police recovered an array of firearms, including three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, two locally made revolvers, other pistols, and rubber guns used in various criminal activities.

CP Ewah attributed the successful recovery of these firearms to the reliable and actionable intelligence provided by members of the public, expressing his appreciation for their trust and cooperation.

"We want to thank our partners out there for believing in us, for trusting in us, and sharing information that has led to the removal of these firearms," he added, acknowledging the crucial role of public support.

The suspects, including those linked to kidnapping and terrorism, will face prosecution in court, according to CP Ewah, who praised the effective partnership with the Plateau State Ministry of Justice, particularly the Attorney General, for ensuring diligent prosecution of cases.

The CP also expressed his appreciation for the media's role in publicizing the police efforts and encouraged continued collaboration to make Plateau a safer place.

During the briefing, exhibits, including the seized firearms, were put on display, as reported by our correspondent.

CP Ewah assured that the owners of the recovered rifles would face charges, as the court would determine the legitimacy of their possession, bringing the matter to a conclusive end.
