‘Support people to vote’ – Obidient group seeks diaspora Nigerians’ help

Obidient Connect, a support group backing Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential bid, has urged Nigerians living abroad to help mobilise voters at home, asking each diaspora member to support at least 10 people to participate in the election.

The group acknowledged that Nigerians in the diaspora may not be able to vote directly but said they could contribute to the electoral process by encouraging eligible voters in the country to exercise their civic responsibility.

In a social media post shared by Justice Crack, an Obi supporter, Obidient Connect appealed to Nigerians abroad to assist people back home in casting their ballots.

“To all Nigerians in the diaspora, even though you may not be able to vote directly, you can still support someone back home to participate in the election,” the group stated.

“You can support at least 10 people to exercise their civic responsibility—and you can even do more.”

The group said Nigerians living abroad had experienced governance systems outside the country and could use their knowledge to encourage democratic participation ahead of the 2027 general election.

“If you live in the diaspora, you have seen how good governance can work, and you understand the kind of Nigeria many of us want to build at home,” it added.

Obidient Connect also urged Nigerians abroad to join its platform and support efforts to increase participation in the forthcoming polls.

“Join Obidient Connect. Let’s support civic participation and work towards a better Nigeria in 2027. Nigeria must be OK,” the group said.

The appeal comes amid disagreements between the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and some support groups over the organisation and leadership of Obi’s 2027 presidential campaign.

On September 17, the Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement, a group supporting Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, announced a 59-member presidential campaign council.

The NDC has since distanced itself from the said campaign council, saying only the party is authorised to constitute such.

Also, Obi said the council was constituted without his knowledge or approval.
