The fine was imposed by UEFA, the European football governing body, which made the announcement on Friday, also stipulating that the club will face a partial closure of its stadium.

The Spanish club had taken swift action, requesting its disciplinary committee to initiate expulsion proceedings against the member responsible for the gesture, promptly after the incident occurred.

Security personnel at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium had swiftly identified the supporter, who was then immediately ejected from the premises, according to the club's account of events.

As part of the sanction, UEFA has ordered the closure of 500 seats in the lower south stand of the stadium for one match, although the enforcement of this penalty has been suspended for a period of one year.
