Soldiers thwart attempted infiltration, apprehend undercover agent and impersonators in Abuja

Troops from the Guards Brigade have successfully thwarted a potential security threat by apprehending a suspected spy and four impostors in separate operations conducted within the Federal Capital Territory.

The details of these operations were outlined in an operational report made available on Sunday in Abuja, which was obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria.

The army's operations, which took place on May 9, were carried out by troops from the 176 Guards Battalion and Guards Brigade Garrison at various locations throughout the capital city.

During a routine foot patrol on Saturday, troops from the 176 Guards Battalion intercepted a suspected spy lurking within a restricted area near the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

Upon searching the suspect, items recovered included a wallet containing two ATM cards, receipts, and passport photographs, and the suspect is currently being held for further investigation.

In a separate operation, four suspected impostors were arrested by troops from the Guards Brigade Garrison at approximately 9:00 a.m. on the same day in the Gwarinpa area, along Dantata Estate in the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

The suspects were found to be dressed in military camouflage at the time of their arrest, and items seized from them included one ballistic helmet, one fragmentation jacket, a dagger, two motorcycles, four mobile phones, and various other items.

The suspects are currently in custody, with investigations into the matter ongoing, according to the report.

The Nigerian Army stated that these arrests are part of their continued efforts to strengthen security around sensitive locations in the Federal Capital Territory and prevent infiltration by criminal elements.
