Sokoto Deputy Speaker advocates for establishment of military outpost in village near border to combat banditry

Deputy Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Hon. Kabiru Ibrahim, is advocating for the immediate establishment of a permanent military base in Mallammawar Yari community, Kware Local Government Area, in response to a recent bandit attack that has left residents on edge.

Ibrahim's call to action comes as a reaction to the security breach in the community, with the lawmaker emphasizing that a military presence would bolster security operations and safeguard lives and property.

Mallammawar Yari's proximity to Rabah Local Government Area, which has seen a surge in bandit activity despite ongoing military efforts to restore peace, has raised concerns about the community's vulnerability to attacks.

The community's strategic location, according to Ibrahim, makes it an easy target for criminal elements who exploit the challenging terrain and border links between the two local government areas to launch attacks and escape to hideouts.

Ibrahim believes that establishing a military base in Mallammawar Yari would deter future attacks and enhance rapid response to security threats in surrounding communities.

The Deputy Speaker has praised the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for their efforts in combating banditry in Sokoto and the North-West, but stresses that additional security infrastructure is necessary to build on the progress made so far.

Ibrahim is urging the Federal Government and military authorities to consider his request urgently, in order to prevent further displacement of residents and restore confidence among communities in the border areas.
