Sokoto deploys commissioners, advisers to monitor polio immunisation in 23 LGAs

Governor Ahmed Aliyu has approved the deployment of members of the State Executive Council and Special Advisers to monitor the upcoming polio immunisation campaign across the 23 local government areas of Sokoto State.

The immunisation exercise, part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s fight against Polio, is scheduled to hold from March 7 to March 10, 2026.

The directive was disclosed in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Health, Faruk Umar Abubakar, who said the governor’s decision aims to ensure effective monitoring, transparency and the successful implementation of the campaign at the grassroots level.

Abubakar noted that the involvement of top government officials demonstrates the administration’s commitment to protecting the health of children and supporting national and global efforts to permanently eradicate polio.

According to the statement, members of the State Executive Council have been assigned to supervise the exercise in different local government areas. Among those deployed are Barr. Mohammed Nasiru Binji to Silame, Namadina Ibrahim to Bodinga, Bashar Umarun Kwabo to Gwadabawa, Balarabe Musa Kadadi to Illela, Isah Muhammad Tambagarka to Goronyo, and Asabe Balarabe to Dange Shuni.

Others include the health commissioner, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar, who will oversee Wamakko; Haruna Abbas Bashir for Gada; and Auwalu Wali for Isa Local Government Area.

Additional assignments include Bala Kokani to Kebbe, Hadiza Ahmad Shagari to Kware, Shehu Alhaji Chacho to Rabah, Umar Muhammad Masari to Sabon Birni, Engr. Muhammad Jabbi Shagari to Shagari, and Prof. Attahiru Ahmad Sifawa to Binji.

Also deployed are Ibrahim Dadi Adare to Sokoto South, Barr. Nasiru Aliyu Dan Tsoho to Sokoto North, Prof. Ahmed Ladan Ala to Tambuwal, Sahabi Gidan-Madi to Gudu, Muhammad Abba Mualledi to Tureta, Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar to Tangaza, Dr. Bello Muhammad Marnona to Yabo, and Sada Ibrahim Durbawa to Wurno.

The commissioner urged parents and caregivers, particularly in Sokoto State, to make their children available for vaccination, stressing that immunisation remains the most effective way to protect children from the debilitating effects of polio.

He also assured that adequate logistics and personnel have been deployed to ensure the smooth conduct of the four-day campaign across the state.
