Single Vehicle Crash Results in Four Fatalities on Lagos-Ibadan Highway — FRSC

A fatal accident occurred on Sunday night along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, resulting in the loss of four lives, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun State Command, as confirmed by Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin on Monday.

The accident involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus and took place at approximately 9:18 p.m. in front of Christopher University, prompting a swift response from the FRSC Mowe Unit Command, which arrived at the scene within two minutes.

A total of 13 individuals were involved in the crash, consisting of 11 adult males and two adult females, with eight sustaining varying degrees of injuries and four adult males unfortunately losing their lives.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the FRSC revealed that a tyre burst, coupled with excessive speed, led to the driver losing control of the vehicle, with the suspected causes of the crash being tyre burst and speed violation.

Corps Commander Fasakin emphasized that these factors are major contributors to road traffic crashes and must be avoided by all motorists, highlighting the importance of safe driving practices.

The injured victims were promptly evacuated to Famobis Hospital for medical treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the Idera Morgue for further proceedings.

The Motor Traffic Division of the Redeemed Police Station has taken custody of the crashed vehicle and all recovered belongings for further investigation, as disclosed by Corps Commander Fasakin.

The FRSC sector commander expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged motorists to prioritize safety at all times, emphasizing the importance of obeying speed limits and ensuring tyres are in good condition before embarking on any journey.
