Sibling of Fubara announces intention to run for Rivers state governor on NDC ticket

Blessing Fubara, brother of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has announced his candidacy for the Rivers State governorship election on the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, with a pledge to serve a single term if victorious.

As the party's primary election approaches, Fubara has presented himself as a "ready, competent and energetic" contender, dedicated to reviving peace, stability, and economic prosperity in Rivers State, which he believes has suffered significant political and economic setbacks in recent times.

According to Fubara, the state has experienced substantial losses, including missed opportunities, investments, dignity, and pride, prompting his call for a unified effort across political and ethnic lines to reclaim the state's former glory.

He described the current state of Rivers State as distressed, shortchanged, and resembling a conquered territory, emphasizing that its people are not conquered and must rise to reclaim their rightful place.

Fubara has vowed to uphold the state's zoning arrangement, ensuring that the Rivers South-East Senatorial District completes its eight-year tenure, in line with the vision of the state's founding fathers.

He reiterated his commitment to a single four-year term, aimed at bringing about the desired prosperity and development to Rivers State, and argued that political influence should not be solely determined by financial strength.

Fubara emphasized that his greatest advantage lies in the support of the people, which he believes outweighs financial capacity, saying "we are richer in capacity" despite not being able to match his opponents' financial resources.

He urged supporters across the state's 23 local government areas to mobilize en masse for the party's primary election and appealed to his "elder brother" in the race to step down in support of the people's uprising for the state's prosperity and stability.

Fubara warned that altering the senatorial rotation of leadership in the state would set a dangerous precedent, while promising to restore peace and strengthen governance if elected governor.
