Shettima leaves Abuja bound for Benin to attend presidential swearing-in ceremony

Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Cotonou, where he will stand in for President Bola Tinubu at the swearing-in ceremony of Romuald Wadagni, the newly elected President of the Republic of Benin.

This development was disclosed by Mr Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, through a statement released on Saturday.

According to Nkwocha, Vice President Shettima is set to join a gathering of prominent leaders from Africa and other parts of the world at the inauguration, which is slated to occur on Sunday, May 24, at the Presidential Palace in Cotonou.

Nkwocha highlighted the long-standing historical, socio-cultural, and economic bonds between Benin and Nigeria, noting that the two nations' bilateral ties often revolve around issues such as border security, trade policies, and energy cooperation.

Vice President Shettima is being accompanied to the event by a team of senior aides and high-ranking government officials, and he is expected to return to Nigeria upon completing his engagement in the Republic of Benin.
