Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Hajiya Zubaida Umar, on Wednesday visited victims of the recent bomb blasts in Maiduguri who are receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

The visit followed multiple suicide attacks that claimed 23 lives and left over 100 people injured in parts of the Borno State capital, including the Post Office, Monday Market, and the entrance of UMTH.

Speaking to journalists after touring the hospital’s Trauma Centre, Shettima commiserated with the Borno State Government, the people of the North-East, and families of those who lost loved ones in the attacks. He also prayed for the repose of the deceased and quick recovery of the injured.

“We are here to commiserate with the government and people of Borno State, especially families of those who lost their loved ones in the attacks,” he said.

The Vice President assured Nigerians that the Federal Government would intensify efforts to restore peace and security across the country. He described the attacks as tragic and condemned the perpetrators, stressing that no religion supports the killing of innocent people.

Shettima also noted that NEMA, in collaboration with other agencies, would commence the distribution of medical supplies and relief materials to victims and affected families.

Officials of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the Borno State Government were also part of the visit, aimed at providing support and relief to those affected by the incident.
