Severe downpour causes devastation in Osogbo, prompting Governor Adeleke to offer condolences to those affected

A severe rainstorm hit Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, late on Saturday night, causing substantial destruction to homes and businesses in the area, with numerous buildings suffering significant damage to their rooftops, including one at the Technical College, Osogbo.

The storm's strong winds uprooted and toppled billboards onto shops, and also damaged both parked and moving vehicles, while a white garment church in the Ijetu area lost its roof, and multiple buildings in Ogo-Oluwa, Isale-Osun, and other communities were affected.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, expressed sympathy for the affected residents, describing the impact of the storm as devastating, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on the aftermath of the heavy rainstorm.

According to the statement, Governor Adeleke said he was deeply touched and alarmed by the incident, which occurred on Saturday, 28th March 2026, in Osogbo and surrounding communities, and he vowed that his administration would take all necessary steps to support the victims.

The governor announced that his administration would work through the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA) to offset the losses incurred by the victims, and he also directed the Ministry of Works to promptly clear the roads to prevent further accidents.
