Senegal celebrates AFCON win with parade at Stade de France, title revocation notwithstanding
Saturday's international friendly football match between Senegal and Peru at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, north of Paris, began with a notable display, as Senegal's players showcased The African Cup of Nations trophy, despite the controversy surrounding their title win.
nThe African Cup of Nations title was initially awarded to Senegal in January, after a disputed final against hosts Morocco, but they were later stripped of their victory just weeks later, in a dramatic turn of events.
nBefore facing Peru, the Senegalese team, led by captain Kalidou Coulibaly, took to the pitch with the AFCON trophy for a celebratory lap of honour, following a lively pre-match concert performed by renowned Senegalese musician Youssou Ndour.
