Senator Ndume cautions that Borno and the North-East region are at risk of falling into the hands of insurgents.

Former Senate Leader Ali Ndume has urged the federal government to ensure the Nigerian Army is fully equipped to combat insurgency and banditry, citing the risk of Borno State and the Northeast falling to terrorist groups.

Ndume's appeal came after he visited Ngoshe and Pulka in Borno, alongside Governor Babagana Zulum, where they witnessed the aftermath of recent attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.

The coordinated attacks on these areas resulted in the loss of lives of soldiers and civilians, as well as the abduction of women and children, highlighting the severity of the situation.

According to Ndume, the military was initially outgunned by the terrorist groups, prompting his call for the government to provide the army with sophisticated arms and ammunition to effectively counter the threats.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Ndume emphasized the need for the federal government to step up its efforts in equipping the army with advanced arms and ammunitions to prevent similar incidents.

He revealed that during his visit, he found that soldiers lacked adequate ammunition, which forced them to retreat from Ngoshe and Pulka as the terrorists gained the upper hand, only regaining control after reinforcements arrived.

Ndume commended Governor Zulum for his visit to the devastated communities and IDP camps, and advocated for federal support to rebuild and assist displaced persons affected by the violence.

Describing the scale of destruction in Ngoshe, Ndume noted that the area was reduced to "ground zero," with only a small mosque left standing, while praising the Nigerian Army for successfully retaking the area.
