Security guard flees after 67-year-old homeowner is discovered dead in Ajah house

A tragic incident has occurred in the Ajah area of Lagos State, resulting in the death of 67-year-old Chief Augustine Nwalieze, who was allegedly killed by his gateman under circumstances that have yet to be determined.

Chief Nwalieze, a manager at Okeyson Transport, was found dead in his Ajah residence on Saturday morning, shortly after preparing to leave the house.

A family member, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed the family's devastation, stating that they have been heartbroken since the incident occurred, and that something terrible had happened to their father-in-law on Saturday.

According to the family member, the deceased had gone downstairs to the car park area of his residence, where he kept spare parts for his vehicles and a solar panel, when the incident occurred, and it was his gateman, Abdullahi Dairu, who allegedly killed him.

The family became worried when they noticed that none of the deceased's vehicles had been moved, and their attempts to reach him by phone were unsuccessful, prompting them to search for him.

It was during this search that suspicion fell on the gateman, Abdullahi Dairu, who provided conflicting accounts of the victim's whereabouts, claiming that the deceased had gone out with a friend, but the friend denied this when contacted by the deceased's wife.

Abdullahi Dairu's suspicion deepened when he fled shortly after providing the information, and a thorough search of the compound was conducted, leading to the discovery of the deceased's lifeless body in one of the flats downstairs with machete cuts on his head, hands, and body.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival, and it was learned that he lived with his wife, daughter, two maids, and another woman, who were all upstairs at the time of the incident.

The deceased's other children were said to be working and living independently, and the family is currently taking the corpse to his hometown.

The matter has been reported to the police, who have commenced an investigation, according to the family member.

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the murder of a 67-year-old man, though they referred to him as Owkudili, and according to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, the command is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

Abimbola Adebisi also stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing security guard linked to the premises, in connection with the murder of the 67-year-old man.
