Security guard accused of killing 65-year-old logistics executive in Lagos

A tragic incident occurred in the Ajah area of Lagos State, where 65-year-old Chief Augustine Nwalieze was allegedly murdered by his gateman under circumstances that have yet to be determined.

The deceased, a manager at Okeyson Transport, was reportedly attacked at his Ajah residence on Sunday morning, shortly after preparing to attend church service.

A family member, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed the family's devastation, stating that they have been left heartbroken since the incident occurred, with the family member saying "I have been very heartbroken since yesterday, something very bad happened to my father-in-law yesterday".

According to the family member, the deceased had gone downstairs to the car park area of his residence, where spare parts from his vehicles and a solar panel were stored, before the incident took place.

The family member recounted that the deceased's gateman was responsible for his death, which occurred after the deceased had prepared for church service and walked downstairs to the car park, near the store where spare parts and a solar panel were kept.

The family became concerned when they realized that none of the deceased's vehicles had been moved and all attempts to reach him by phone were unsuccessful, with the family member saying "nobody could really tell what happened, they didn’t hear the sound of any car driving off or the gate opening".

The family's worry grew as they noticed the deceased's three cars were still parked, and their attempts to call him were met with no response, prompting them to investigate further.

Suspicion fell on the gateman when he provided conflicting accounts of the victim's whereabouts, claiming the deceased had gone out with one of his friends, but the friend denied this when contacted by the deceased's wife.

The gateman's story raised further suspicion, and he fled shortly after being questioned, prompting a thorough search of the compound, which led to the discovery of the deceased's lifeless body in one of the flats downstairs.

The search yielded a grim find, with the deceased's body bearing machete cuts on his head, hands, and body, a sight that was described as terrible.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival, and the family is currently taking the corpse to his hometown.

The incident occurred while the deceased's wife, daughter, two maids, and another woman were upstairs, and other children of the deceased were working and living independently.

The matter has been reported to the police, who have commenced an investigation, with efforts ongoing to locate the gateman, who is currently on the run, according to the family member.

The Lagos State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
