Security forces overpower outlaws, raze secret bases in Sokoto

Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have successfully neutralised bandits and dismantled their hideouts in the highlands bordering Zamfara, specifically around Dangulbi and Kurawa villages in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

A reliable security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed the major operational successes to the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Sokoto, revealing that several bandits, including key kingpins, were killed during the operation.

Many other bandits escaped with gunshot wounds, according to the source, who further disclosed that the operation was conducted on June 4 in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilantes in the area.

The source assured that the tempo of the operation would be sustained, highlighting the swift response, professionalism, and courage displayed by the military personnel, which averted what could have been a tragic incident.

The military's commitment to protecting the lives and property of citizens was reaffirmed by the source, who noted that the army engaged the bandits in a fierce battle, forcing them to retreat and flee into forests in neighbouring states.

During the operation, soldiers recovered several weapons and motorcycles, the source confirmed, adding that the terrorists suffered heavy losses.

The operation was carried out by personnel of 8 Division, Operation Fansan Yamma, according to the source, who was not authorised to speak on the matter.

The Nigerian Army's significant successes against bandits in the state have been commended by the Special Adviser to Gov Ahmad Aliyu on Security Matters, retired Col Ahmad Usman, and other citizens, as recalled by the News Agency of Nigeria.
