Security forces overpower militant, free three abducted hostages in Zamfara

The Nigerian Army has announced that its troops from Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have successfully neutralised a terrorist and rescued three kidnapped individuals, while also destroying a bandits' camp, as part of ongoing operations in Zamfara.

This development was outlined in an operational report made available on Saturday in Abuja, which provided details of the military's ongoing efforts to combat banditry and other criminal activities in the region.

The operation took place on June 12, with troops conducting a sweep across communities in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas, as part of a broader campaign to tackle banditry and related crimes.

Troops on a fighting patrol in the areas of Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa engaged with terrorists in Yanbuki District of Zurmi LGA, resulting in a firefight that neutralised one of the terrorists, while the others fled the scene.

The military recovered a range of items from the scene, including rifles, four magazines loaded with ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, woodland camouflage trousers, and an inner vest.

As the troops maintained pressure on the fleeing terrorists, they advanced towards the Sabon Garin Daudawa community, prompting the terrorists to abandon their camp and flee upon sighting the approaching military personnel.

The area was subsequently cleared by the troops, who destroyed the camp to prevent it from being used as a safe haven for future criminal operations.

During the clearance operations, the troops were able to rescue three kidnapped victims and evacuate them to a safe location, marking a significant success in the military's efforts to protect civilians in the region.

The military has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations across Zamfara and the wider North-West, with the goal of dismantling terrorist and bandit groups and restoring peace to affected communities.
