Security challenges in North Central region are complex and multifaceted, says Suswam

Former Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam, has voiced his support for Governor Hyacinth Alia's approach to tackling security challenges in the state, characterizing the situation in the North Central region as complex and multifaceted.

Suswam made these comments following a visit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Secretariat in Makurdi, where he was accompanied by his supporters, in a move that signals his allegiance to the ruling party in the state.

According to Suswam, his decision to support the APC was motivated by a long-standing personal relationship with Governor Alia, one that predates their involvement in partisan politics.

Suswam noted that he and Governor Alia have been friends for a long time, even before the governor considered running for office, and that their friendship transcends party affiliations.

He explained that their continued communication after the 2023 elections influenced his decision to avoid opposing the state government, as he saw no need to do so given their close relationship.

Suswam brought his political associates to the APC to foster unity and stability in addressing key issues affecting the state, particularly insecurity.

He emphasized the need for a unified approach to addressing the state's challenges, stating that he wanted to ensure stability and focus on critical issues like insecurity.

Suswam acknowledged the complexity of the security crisis in the North Central region and commended Governor Alia's efforts, noting that many of the administration's actions remain unknown to the public.

He also recognized the support provided by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state government in addressing insecurity, stating that the president has given Governor Alia significant backing.

Suswam emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in addressing insecurity, warning that relying solely on the government may not yield the desired results.

He stressed that all Nigerians must take an interest in addressing insecurity, as it requires a collaborative effort to be effective.

Suswam's move to the APC is aimed at strengthening unity in Benue and aligning the state with the ruling party at the federal level.

He stated that his goal is to bring people together to support the party and ensure stability, making it clear that Benue is committed to the APC.

Suswam remains open to contesting elective office in the future, including a possible return to the Senate, stating that all options are on the table for him as a politician.
