SDP steps up overhaul and rallying efforts in lead-up to 2027 polls

The Social Democratic Party has underscored its dedication to unity and reform, with a keen focus on the upcoming 2027 general elections, as evident from the outcomes of its second National Executive Committee meeting held in Abuja.

Prof. Sadiq Gombe, the National Chairman of the SDP, highlighted the party's notable achievements over the past four months, including the successful conduct of two NEC meetings, a National Convention, the election of Prince Adewole Adebayo as the presidential candidate, and the completion of primary elections, all of which have contributed to strengthening the party's structures nationwide.

Gombe commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for its collaborative stance and reaffirmed the party's commitment to upholding the rule of law, while also emphasizing that the SDP remains a unified entity, with any disciplinary actions taken against former officials having followed the due process.

The national chairman encouraged party members to maintain their unity and intensify efforts to mobilize support at the grassroots level in preparation for the 2027 elections.

Dr. Olu Agunloye, the party's National Secretary, outlined the SDP's review of its structures, updates to its constitution, improvements to its membership register, and the introduction of new administrative procedures aimed at enhancing accountability.

According to Dr. Agunloye, the party's next phase of reforms will concentrate on bolstering polling unit structures and training polling agents in anticipation of future elections.

Senator Ugochukwu Uba, the Deputy National Chairman (South), urged party members to remain united, emphasizing that the SDP's manifesto prioritizes the welfare and security of the Nigerian people.

In a goodwill message, Mr. Solomon Akwashiki expressed his confidence in the SDP's potential to secure more elective positions in the 2027 general elections.

Femi Olaniyi, the Chairman of the SDP State Chairmen Forum, called upon party leaders to strengthen structures at the state, local government, and ward levels, while also promoting voter registration, Permanent Voter Card collection, and membership drives.

Saadatu Abdullahi, the National Woman Leader, advocated for increased participation of women in the party's leadership and decision-making processes, recalling her earlier proposal to include state and zonal women leaders in the National Executive Committee to foster broader representation within the party.
