SDP National Executive Committee confirms Gombe as party chair, Uba as deputy chair for southern region

The Social Democratic Party's National Executive Committee has given its stamp of approval to the expulsion of certain members, including Shehu Gabam, following allegations of financial impropriety.

A key decision made by the NEC was the ratification of Dr Sadiq Abubakar Gombe's appointment as the party's National Chairman, a move that was proposed by Hon Gaza Jonathan Gbefwi, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Karu/Keffi/Okona Federal Constituency.

Senator Ugochukwu Uba's appointment as National Deputy Chairman, South, was also ratified by the NEC, while Mrs Rosemary Effiong was confirmed as the National Labour and Civil Society Secretary.

The NEC furthermore endorsed disciplinary actions against several members, including the suspension of former chairman Shehu Gabam and others, over alleged gross financial misconduct, embezzlement, misappropriation, and diversion of party funds totaling over N1 billion naira.

These resolutions were made during the ongoing NEC meeting of the SDP, held at Newton Hotel and Resort in Abuja, where motions were moved and seconded.

The suspension of Shehu Gabam by the NWC of the SDP on 24th June last year was a precursor to the current developments, with the party also suspending two NWC members, Nze Nnadi Clarkson and Uchechukwu Chukwuma, over similar allegations of financial misconduct.
