SDP commends liberation of kidnapped Oyo students and staff, pays tribute to fallen military personnel

The Social Democratic Party has praised Nigeria's security forces for their successful rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, while also mourning the loss of an Army officer who died during the operation.

This commendation came in a statement issued on Sunday by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, who highlighted the intelligence-led, multi-agency operation that resulted in the rescue of the victims after over 56 days in captivity.

The SDP described the operation as a showcase of professionalism, coordination, and commitment by the nation's security agencies, demonstrating what can be achieved through effective collaboration and leadership.

The party also emphasized the need for the Federal Government to intensify efforts to address poverty, hunger, and social injustice, which it believes are key contributors to insecurity across the country.

The victims were abducted on May 15, 2026, from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, Esiele, and LA Primary School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, an incident that underscored the country's security challenges.

The successful rescue, however, reflected the potential for effective leadership and coordinated action to yield positive results, and the SDP noted this as a significant achievement.

The party paid tribute to 28-year-old Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac, who lost his life during the rescue operation, acknowledging his courage and sacrifice in restoring joy to the affected families.

The SDP stated that Lieutenant Isaac's service and sacrifice would be remembered, and his bravery would not be forgotten.

The party further urged the government to tackle the socio-economic challenges that fuel insecurity, expressing hope that Nigeria's democracy would translate into improved security, protection of lives and property, and sustainable national development.
