Saudi Arabia reports it has shot down three unmanned aircraft originating from Iraq
A massive series of Israeli airstrikes pounded southern Lebanon on May 17, 2026, with smoke billowing from the targeted village of Erzay, despite a truce extension between Israel and Lebanon.
nThe airstrikes, which Israel claims are aimed at Hezbollah, were preceded by evacuation warnings for nine villages, sparking widespread scepticism about the truce among the thousands of Lebanese displaced from their homes in the south.
nSaudi Arabia's defence ministry announced on Sunday that it had intercepted and destroyed three drones that had entered the country's airspace from Iraq.
nAccording to defence ministry spokesman Turki al-Maliki, the drones entered Saudi airspace on Sunday morning, and the ministry has reserved the right to respond to the incident at a time and place of its choosing.
